Task for the Holidays

Who are they?

What artists do they represent?

What is their target market? How do you know?

How is the music distributed?

How is it marketed? Find examples from all different types of media – think about tours, websites, press releases, appearances, hype, news, photo opportunities, tv advertising, magazine advertising, radio

Think about how the product is 'sold' – sex, scandal etc

What is their relationship with the consumer? Think about how the marketing 'works'

What are the difficulties and challenges that the different types of label face? Why?

How do these label sign new talent? Do they?

How have new technologies influenced these labels? Think about youtube, myspace, itunes, spotify etc

How has pirated music affected these industries?
